Raising money to protect vital habitats

Challenge

The valley of the River Alde has always been an essential part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the estuary is protected by a number of national and international designations, with some of the most significant coastal marshland sites for birds and flora in Europe.

Philanthropy Company has been working with the Alde & Ore Estuary Trust since 2021 to develop and execute a campaign to raise £20m+ in support of flood defences on the East Anglian coast.

Response

Articulating the social, economic and environmental benefits of protecting such a fragile environment has required an appreciation of the complexity of climate change and public/ private finance, whilst assessing the appetite of local residents and other potential donors has necessitated sensitive research. As the public phase to the campaign emerges, we continue to work in tandem with trustees and volunteers to cultivate leading major donor prospects.

Impact

Our work to assist the organisation in reaching its £20m+ will have tangible and visible results on the natural environment for this unique and protected area.

“Philanthropy Company helped us think through our Revenue Fundraising Strategy, create a compelling case for support and research prospects. It gave us confidence that we were focusing in the right areas and helped us hone our skills in making the ask to donors.” Mary Rose Trust
