James Clayton-Jones Philanthropy Company

James is a strategic consultant and fundraising specialist bringing Philanthropy Company over 25 years’ experience delivering feasibility studies and campaigns for universities, museums, and cultural institutions. He combines sector insight with practical experience in developing philanthropic strategies that enable transformational change.

Before joining Philanthropy Company, James helped deliver the construction and opening of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. He subsequently spent  over a decade in Edinburgh, where he led fundraising for the £46 million Royal Museum Project at National Museums Scotland and then migrated to the University of Edinburgh. There, he played a key role in the £350 million campaign and served as strategic fundraising lead for the University’s Libraries, Museums & Galleries, including their revenue and capital programmes. Following his time in Scotland, he became Director of Arts & Business Cymru, supporting cultural organisations and corporate partners to strengthen arts investment across Wales.

James is deeply committed to inclusive practice and community impact, especially in his role as the Chairman of Newbridge Memo. He is also the director of a small not-for-profit supporting neurodiverse children where, as a parent of a disabled daughter, he champions programmes that build confidence, reduce anxiety, and create opportunities for all children to thrive.
