Challenge

The Courtauld Institute of Art approached Philanthropy Company to provide interim leadership support during a period of change at one of the world’s leading higher education arts institutions. At the time, the Courtauld actively fundraised towards a major £82 million development to create a new world-class campus at Somerset House alongside the launch of new academic initiatives.

Our Response

Consultant Peter O’Connor was appointed as Interim Deputy Director of Advancement to support the Director of Advancement in managing the team and overseeing the planning and delivery of key aspects of the fundraising activity, alumni relations, and membership at a time of transition in leadership roles and significant growth of activity.

Impact

As the work progressed, several additional projects emerged where Philanthropy Company was able to add value. Experienced consultant Emma Lacroix provided extra capacity in stewardship, helping to communicate the impact of the Courtauld’s work to some of the world’s leading arts funders. In addition, our prospect research specialist, Edward Raichura-Brown, delivered targeted prospect research to support fundraising for academic initiatives.

At Philanthropy Company, we pride ourselves on working as an extension of our clients’ teams, supporting leading education institutions in planning and delivering campaigns, and ensuring fundraising teams achieve their objectives. We have greatly enjoyed working alongside the Courtauld Institute at a pivotal time of growth and new development. We were delighted that the Courtauld chose to extend our partnership by renewing Peter’s role.
