Sarah Washington Philanthropy Company

Sarah Washington is an award-winning fundraising consultant bringing to Philanthropy Company her specialism in high-value fundraising across major donors, corporates and trusts & foundations. Sarah’s 18 years+ fundraising experience spans international development, humanitarian response, and social mobility/poverty alleviation.

Prior to consultancy, Sarah held in-house leadership roles, firstly at ActionAid UK, where she more than doubled income over four years during the global pandemic, (leading a team of high-performing individuals who reached the 2022 shortlist for the UK’s ‘Best Fundraising Team’ by Third Sector) and secondly at Sir Lewis Hamilton’s Foundation, Mission 44, where she established and grew the Development and Communications programme as Founding Director of External Relations.

Sarah’s entrepreneurial approach to setting up and boosting fundraising programmes has been developed from her in-house experience of launching and implementing the UK philanthropy programme at American organisation, International Rescue Committee, led by David Miliband, as well as from developing and launching the Arise Fund at ActionAid UK, (a multi-million pound Humanitarian Fund led by a taskforce of senior stakeholders from the world of UK business, finance and sport).

Prior to her fundraising career, Sarah worked in Marketing and Advertising in London, managing corporate accounts in the financial services sector. She is Trustee of STIR Education and a Speaker at regular Fundraising Conferences and Networking events. She is winner of the ‘Not-for-Profit Leader of the Year Award, 2023’, hosted by the Pros Award.
