Emma Black

Consultant
Emma is a strategic fundraiser and project leader, with experience across cultural campaigns and high level events. At Philanthropy Company, she works with clients to craft fundraising strategy for capital projects and to develop mission-led campaigns.
Emma was a senior leader at the Science Museum Group, increasing donations by 3000%, building audience engagement to six million nationally and reducing dependency on Grant in Aid. In her role at the Nottingham Castle Trust, she transformed a £30m capital scheme into a city-wide public realm and placemaker of a new Cultural Quarter, closing the funding gap, guiding a stage two National Heritage Lottery Fund capital application and advising on the transfer from City Council to Trust. With a flair for special events, Emma has also led a Fundraising Gala at the National Portrait Gallery. Hosted by the Duchess of Cambridge and Edward Enninful OBE, the gala exceeded financial targets and was showcased around the world.
Beyond work, Emma remains a committed volunteer. As a previous Trustee of the Big Draw, Emma was pivotal to securing emergency Covid funding, and transitioning operations and delivery fully online. In her board post at the Association for Art History, Emma raised ambitions – scaling the A-level teaching programme five-fold and securing the largest donation to date.
