Gordon Cox

Director

Gordon is delighted to be joining Philanthropy Company to strengthen and deepen their support to the Education sector.

Gordon brings over 20 years experience of working within Higher Education, in a range of senior Advancement positions. Most recently he has been Director of Advancement at the University of Bath, reporting to the Vice Chancellors, where he restructured the office and oversaw several of the largest gifts in the institution’s history and a 50% increase in endowment.

Before joining Bath, Gordon was Head of Development (Humanities) at the University of Oxford and then became Director of Development at University College, Oxford. In these leadership roles, he built and established high-performing teams during periods of change and led complex projects and giving opportunities. Gordon has a highly respected record of securing six to eight-figure gifts from individuals, Trusts, and Corporates, for a diverse range of projects such as capital and endowment.

Gordon started his career in regular giving at Durham and Edinburgh universities, and quickly established himself, as a sector-leading innovator in this field. He understands advancement and academia from all angles and has always taken a data-driven approach to his work.

With a background in Geography, Gordon has a global outlook and an affinity for travel. Professionally he has worked extensively within North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe and has supported the creation and review of global volunteer boards.
