Russell joins Philanthropy Company having led and delivered major campaigns for complex and multi-disciplinary clients. Russell has over 25 years of experience as a fundraising director within some of the UK’s best-loved organisations such as Cancer Research UK (CR-UK), Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), UNICEF UK, NSPCC and more recently The Courtauld Institute of Art and Birkbeck, University of London. He is the former Chief Executive of the London Community Foundation.
Over the years, Russell has led and delivered several major philanthropic campaigns including a £100m campaign for CR-UK to fund the construction of the Frances Crick Institute, at St Pancras, London, in addition to a partnership campaign with CR-UK, the University of Manchester and Christie Hospital to create the Manchester Cancer Research Centre. He is currently leading the development and implementation of an £80m campaign for a new cancer centre at the Royal Free London in Hampstead.
Russell is a board member of Football Beyond Borders and the Africa Research Excellence Fund and a former board member of the MRC’s Medical Research Foundation.
He enjoys competing in endurance events and has completed 15 marathons, multiple triathlons and two Ironman’s worldwide.
