Church of England
Helping get to net zero
Challenge
The General Synod voted in February 2020 for the whole of the Church of England to achieve net carbon zero by 2030. This ambitious and important programme will require work right across the Church of England, from tiny churches to church schools, to major cathedrals. It will also require significant funding.
Response
Since March 2021, Philanthropy Company has been supporting the Church of England to drive forward its strategy. We have delivered bespoke training sessions, strategy workshops for senior leaders and fundraising webinars. Additionally, we have written case for support documents and undertaken applications to major trusts.
Impact
Our work has so far helped to secure a £30 million investment from the Church Commissioners fund. As an organisation with so many different parts, identifying and trialling solutions and coordinating their roll out is logistically and financially challenging. However, the impact of the work will have far reaching implications and benefits.
