Philanthropy Company grows Associate team
We are delighted to announce today on the first day of the CASE Europe Annual Conference 2019 that Andrew Thomas is joining our consulting team.
Andrew is an experienced international fundraiser who has held director-level roles within the Higher Education and charity sectors. Moving into philanthropy following a career in commercial sport, Andrew has deep experience and connections within sport and its funders gained through capital and revenue fundraising assignments with The Lord’s Taverners, University of Oxford and most recently as Director of Fundraising at the International Paralympic Committee in Germany (2015-2019). In his most recent role with the International Paralympic Committee, Andrew worked globally to support the development of Para Sport in developing nations.
Between 2008 and 2012, Andrew was part of the University of Oxford development team that achieved the ‘Oxford Thinking’ campaign’s initial target of £1.25bn. Fulfilling roles as an Associate Director and the Head of Development for Sport, his primary focus was on a capital campaign to redevelop the famous Iffley Road sports complex, as well as working with the 80 student-led sports clubs on their alumni engagement and funding priorities. Highlights also included welcoming the Olympic Torch to Oxford in 2012 and playing a significant role in enabling the Women’s Boat Race to be showcased alongside the Men’s from 2015.
As Director of Development at St Peter’s College, Oxford between 2012 and 2015, Andrew helped improve the financial fortunes of one of the University’s younger and least endowed colleges, including the securing of a £5m gift for the renovation of the public spaces of the college.
Through his career assignments, Andrew has developed a detailed understanding of how a range of affinity-based organisations manage relationships and services on behalf of their members, including tennis clubs, athletes, university alumni, farmers and charitable donors.
At CASE today, Caroline Underwood, CEO of Philanthropy Company said:
‘I am so pleased to welcome Andrew to join our talented team. His depth of experience in finding innovative fundraising approaches will bring huge benefit to our Higher Education and sports clients.’
Andrew will join Philanthropy Company as a Director-level Associate, alongside our lead associates working in Arts and Heritage, Universities, Charities, Place-Making and Philanthropic Advisory Services, and said today:
