Consultant interview with Naomi Butters
We interview Philanthropy Company consultant, Naomi Butters, to hear about why she loves fundraising and the key sector trends to look out for in the coming months.
Why are you passionate about fundraising?
There’s something about the social sector that sets my soul alight. It’s so unique and passionate to its core, it’s really hard not to feel drawn-in when you work for a charitable organisation. Being a fundraiser gives you a unique opportunity to share that passion with others, and when you connect a donor with a cause that they care about, it feels really special. That topped with the difference and impact you know the donation will make to the charity and its beneficiaries – why wouldn’t you want to work in fundraising?!

What trends or issues are you seeing right now in fundraising?
The economic crisis will definitely continue to have an effect on charities. With donations from individuals and Charitable Trusts expected to continue to decline due to inflation, the volatility of investments and an increase in demand from good causes.
There are new opportunities in fundraising though; for example the increase in adoption of cryptocurrencies could lead to more younger entrepreneurs supporting charities through these means. The charity sector needs to stay atop of new technology and growing trends such as this.
