Save the Children works in 120 countries to save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfill their potential.


The Brief

Save the Children had always been successful in generating income through direct marketing. At the same time, given the range and scope of its work, as well as many of its high level supporters, there was clearly potential to develop and grow high value fundraising.

Our response

To explore this potential, Caroline Underwood, was appointed Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships, the first role of its kind at Save the Children and in the UK voluntary sector. Caroline led a significant change in culture within the organisation to secure buy-in from the board and substantial investment in high value fundraising. This meant she was able to recruit a new team to cover corporates, trusts and high value donors. She also built on the experience and success that Save the Children had in mass fundraising and transformed the way the organisation’s work can appeal to and engage with high net worth individuals. As a direct result of that, she was able to recruit a high-level campaign board.
