Caius House

Caius House is a charity and youth club that has served Battersea for the last 125 years providing fun, informal and social educational activities for young people from deprived backgrounds between the ages of 11 and 21.

The challenge

Caius House wanted to scope the possibility of a capital appeal for a brand new, state of the art youth centre that could take in more young people and better meet their needs. Our feasibility study showed that Caius House would need to:

  • Enhance and implement more formal management systems and processes at the club
  • Gather evidence and case studies to develop into a strong case for support
  • Develop a fundraising strategy for the capital appeal
  • Develop the board and senior staff skills around fundraising and communications

Our response

We advised Caius House on how to enhance the management structure at Caius House and to ensure the right systems and processes were developed and put in place. Following our recommendations, a new CEO was appointed and we then provided consultancy support and mentoring. Working with the board, CEO and Fundraising Manager, we developed a fundraising strategy for the capital appeal. Working with the Trustees and members of the Management Committee, we identified key personnel within certain Trusts and Foundations through whom we promoted Caius House prior to application. We also undertook hands-on fundraising and communications work which involved writing and submitting bids to Trusts as well as working with the Fundraising Manager to develop and launch a new website for the club.

Impact

“At first we thought we simply needed help raising funds for Caius House. When the Philanthropy Company started working with us, they helped us realise that we actually needed more in-depth management support, which they delivered both sensitively and effectively.

We are very impressed by the way their consultants can work strategically as well as take on the day-to-day fundraising. This shows a great level of flexibility and skill to focus on the big picture as well as hone in on the detail.”
